Inès-Rose as a baby

Life is short. I do not want to spend it knowing one thing extremely well and remaining blind to everything else. I want to understand as much of this strange world as I can: people, ideas, art, science, places, systems, emotions, stories. Not to collect knowledge as proof of intelligence, but because understanding makes life feel larger.

I am drawn to depth, but I have little patience for unnecessary complexity. I believe the best ideas can be made clear without becoming shallow. Complexity should come from the nature of a thing, not from our need to appear clever.

The same is true of people. I value sincerity. Kindness. Curiosity. I struggle with cruelty, pretence and the small performances we sometimes mistake for sophistication. I believe the world would be better if kindness sat above almost everything else.

My work is an extension of my curiosity. It is how I explore. I work through conversations, questions and people. Every project is an excuse to enter a world I do not yet understand, learn its language, and perhaps leave it knowing a little more than I did before.

[Un]Fortunately, I am deeply romantic about life.

I notice beautiful things. I care about atmosphere, gestures, words, objects, rooms, colours and the invisible feeling between people. My sensitivity is how I experience the world.

Things can be built softly. People can be moved without being pushed. Ambition can exist without hardness. You can create, lead, love and change things without losing tenderness along the way.

My dreams are large, although they do not always look like conventional ambition.

I am not particularly interested in being known by everyone. I would rather know people deeply. I want a family. I want a table surrounded by curious minds. I want conversations that continue long after midnight. I want to help people I love build improbable things and become more themselves. I want enough freedom to keep wandering into subjects I know nothing about.

If I accumulate anything in this life, I hope it is knowledge, stories, beautiful memories and people I am grateful to have met.

There is a contradiction in me that I have stopped trying to resolve.

I want peace, but enormous dreams.
I am gentle, but intensely alive.
I like clarity, but I am fascinated by mystery.
I want a quiet life full of slightly unreasonable ideas.

That is probably the closest I have come to a philosophy.
